Xula Palma

XULA PALMA is a cooperative of artisans from Ixcatlán, dedicated to weaving natural palm; an abundant material found around their village. They use an ancestral weaving technique which they are committed to revive. The majority of the community of Ixcatlán is dedicated to this craft, which is carried out in caves that are excavated in the patio of their houses, as this space maintains the right level of humidity to maintain the palm soft for better weaving.

Ixcatlán is truly a unique place, as it is the last survivor of the Ixcatecan ethnic group, and the weaving of the palm is their main source of income.

XULA Palma is a great cooperative that is strongly committed to improve their artisans’ quality of life in addition to preserve its culture, art, traditions and language.
